PeTA: The Hidden Agenda

Usually when most people think of animal rights (AR), they think of people who have great respect for animals, or protesters. And in a sense, that's the very most basic ideology. But their real agenda is not animals: the movements they cluster around are never more than a cover for their real agenda. Their agenda is control.

They're out to put limitations on your personal choices. Exactly what that means is, they believe we should be living completely animal free lifestyle; no meat, dairy, silk, feathers. fur, leather, pets, hunting, seeing eye dogs, circuses, fishing, no animal research for life saving medicines. And though this may seem too far out for an impact to take form, well, that's where People for The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA) comes in.

Let me start out with an introduction to PeTA.

PeTA is the biggest animal rights organization in North America. They collected more than $16 million in donations in 2002, but almost undoubtedly, most donors didn't know exactly where their money was going. PeTA also has a tax-exempt status granted by the U.S. government on the basis of the its lawful conduct. I do not see anything lawful about donating $1,500 to a domestic terrorist organization known as the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) in 2001. Though despite donating such amounts to criminals legal defenses and violent animal rights organizations, most of it's spent on cheap publicity stunts. A quick example of my idea of cheap publicity stunts, is trying to get Slaughterville, Oklahoma to change its name to "Veggiaville" for $20,000 worth of veggie burgers. Is that not the most idiotic way to waste $20,000 dollars? Well, thankfully Slaughterville didn't go for it. Hopefully, but doubtfully the money went to better use. This only happened in February[04].(I am typing this in March, 04). Another thing they drain their money away on is propaganda. Most often with the intention of targeting young children and teenagers. And if one is to get an account with PeTA2's street team(www.PeTA2.com is basically a PeTA site devoted to teens), they will provide them with leaflets, stickers, posters etc. It doesn't seem like anything, thinking about it here and now, but most often this "gear" is very offensive. One example is a "GOT PUS?" sticker they give out to these kids by the load. Obviously this is a spoof of the Dairy slogan "Got Milk?", even though there is no reason to conclude milk has pus in it. From what I hear from these young animal rights activists(ARA's) who hand out on PeTA2.com, they often put them up around their school. (Keep in mind they provide many varieties of stickers). And some of these stickers are encouraged to be put in public places, such as grocery stores and stop signs, which is actually a mild form of vandalism. They also encourage these kids to stencil PeTA's sites in public places.

Another example of PeTA's ill-minded propaganda was giving graphic anti-fur leaflets to children at "The Nut Cracker" concerts in December, 2003. These leaflets were to target children who's parents, mother in particular was wearing fur. They projected someone, supposedly a(their) mother, who was killing a rabbit with a knife. Blood everywhere, the rabbit in fear, the woman smiled. Also showing graphic pictures of dead animals after they had been skinned. It said below -"Until your mother stops wearing fur, your doggy or kitty isn't safe, because she's an animal killer."

Giving graphic leaflets to young children without the parents consent is assault on the parents rights over the child.

One very well known assimilation tool is their famed video "Meet your Meat", which depicts supposedly undercover footage of an abusive factory farm. It seems logical, for anyone to not eat meat after seeing video that gives you the idea you're eating such cruelty, but how reliable is this information provided? It's a very important question, considering it's not logical to stop eating meat completely because of footage of one abusive farm. That's like saying, "I had a Poodle and it attacked me, you should never get a Poodle because it will attack you." which, the intelligent person would know, is plain obtuse. The same goes for their footage. And even if a person is to stop eating meat, for reasons related to that video, they have to remember, this is the same organization that has spent four times as much on criminals and their legal defense than it actually has on animals. They spent $70,000 dollars in defense of Rodney Coronado, convicted in 1992 of arson, of the Michigan State University research lab. In November, 2002 , he also confessed to around six other arsons, all of them part of an animal rights crime spree known as "Operation Bite Back."

So is it not visible by now that they will go to almost any lengths to convert people to their mindless venture? Or at least, persuade them by shock?

Another thing about PeTA is, they're against the breeding of domestic animals, such as dogs and cats. They consider them a by-product of human manipulation; they should die out. If they're supposedly trying to give animals liberties, I guess that doesn't include the right to carry on their existence. They often use the over-population of dogs & cats, or abusive homes to defend this action, but that's still no excuse to wish them extinct. They even compare dog ownership to slavery. But, I do not often, if ever, see dogs on their knees scrubbing the floor, but I do see them often lazily sleeping on it. That is not slavery.

Though I will admit there is animal abuse, most people do not treat their animals cruelly. And with time, possibly animal cruelty will lessen, with harsher penalties and fines as the years pass.

I will note, I'm pro-animal welfare (which is completely different from animal rights), and am against animal cruelty. It's never good to support animal cruelty in anyway. However, I do not think you have to completely exclude animals from your life to prevent animal cruelty. Surly there are other alternatives.

On another subject, they supposedly do not believe in animal exploitation, because it violates the individual rights of that animal. So, why does that mean they have the right to exploit humans?

It's amazing to me how some people can stand in horror in sight of a fur coat, yet compare chickens to holocaust victims. How compassionate can that get?

One fact about PeTA is, they not only have ties with an arsonist, but have ties with a radical(If PeTA's not radical enough) and violent animal rights organization called the Animal Liberation Front (ALF), which is responsible for fire bombs, arson, death threats, vandalism etc.

I honestly do not understand the ALF. At Christmas, the ALF was telling a Safeway in B.C., Canada(I am a 100% percent sure it's happened elsewhere, but this is the only example I could think of at this moment) that they had poisoned their turkeys upon arrival. This, is totally corrupt, considering the Safeway lawfully calls the Food Inspection Agency, they rip open the bags, thaw, and test the turkeys for what kind of poison agent, I do not remember, possibly arsenic. But due to the increased demand for turkey in the Christmas holiday, they did order more, resulting the actual poultry industry making more money because of the new order, Safeway is really the only looser (And the turkeys) unless Safeway's insurance covered it. I personally wouldn't think a grocery store was the target, why would it be? Now is it Boycott Safeway? Why wouldn't they target the actual industry? It doesn't seem logical for an organization that is supposedly liberating animals to conduct such an act that would result in more birds being slaughtered, and their killers making money for it because of another order.

Anyway, back to the top. When I noted about it being too far out for PeTA to ever get it's way, remember, they're constantly gaining members. Imagine the next generation of adults if they keep targeting children now.

There is no one to say an impact is that far off. Even if PeTA doesn't completely get their way, it could still influence major developments in our lives.
The animal rights movement is growing.
A stand must be taken.

Thanks for taking the time to read.
