I love the original, and even the sequels were entertaining. But I heard the remake was a turd. Still, it's in the Netflix queue and if I ever watch it I'll probably see this one, too.

Oh, the remake is in netflix?  Cool.  I never bought or rented it cause I heard the same thing, but I have netflix, so I'll give it a shot.

I caught the preview for this the other day. Might check it out once it comes out on DVD. Kinda interested to see just HOW the earth was taken over by primates.

But I love a good back story anyway. I'm probably one of the few who actually enjoys the Star Wars "prequels" because it explains a lot of things about the classic films that I always wondered about, or even things that I never thought about, but once they showed it I thought "hmmm....that's interesting." One part like that is how they show that the stormtroopers are all clones of Boba Fett's dad.

If you watch the original (movie) series it explains this. It's super cheesy, but some of the best sci-fi is (Starship Troopers, anyone?).

This prequel has a different version of how the earth was taken over by primates then the original series.

I didn't mind the remake. But as a kid I loved the first one and the sequel. Never liked the rest though.

Nowadays, the original seems cheesy because of the SFX, but was state of the art at the time. Sort of like the 1960's Star Trek.

Starship Troopers is cheesy because it was made that way. Not because of the SFX which is still outstanding. Now, the next two movies sucked especially the third one.

It looks interesting but the plot reeks of Alien Space Bats: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AlienSpaceBats

How exactly do newly elevated apes (Alzhimer meds + chimp = evolution?) take over earth from the most advanced species on the planet? It doesn't seem to make much sense.

Well, Peta probably had everyone on the ropes, telling people not to shoot them.
The apes were protected, humans shooting them impounded, soon they gained the right to vote and that's that.
They declared, that, since they are not people, PetA can go f*ck itself and proceeded to murder the sh*t out of humans, while the elected ape politicians downplayed it all, claiming that these murders were not part of an organized process but rather s spontaneous outburst of rage towards the oppressor.
Also they blamed the liberal media and video games.
Soon, pogroms were to follow, while "enlightened" humans still claimed that we should give the apes more time, since surely they would adapt to our society.
Celebrities still defended them in spite of all the interracial rapes and murders and only very few apes ever went to prison, while humans daring to defend themselves found be found guilty on account of speciecist hate-crimes.
The apes then took over the government through bush-style elections and ended the conflicts with china and the middle-east.
By collaborating with russia and blowing everything and everyone up with the combined power of their nuclear weapons.
China and everyone else was told, that a drill, that might possibly set-off defense-systems was to be started, which is why it would be a wise move to turn off security measures for about 5 minutes.
In this timeframe, the nukes hit.
The economy-crisis was ended, the relations with russia were as good as never before and the apes declared themselves the master race.
The rest is history...
Take it with a grain of salt.

Hollywood and big pharma plots are crap. See I am Legend for another turd of an explanation for human apocalypse.

This looks...interesting. To say the least. I loved the original movie and the entire series of sequals they made (though the second one was a head trip). Hell I'm looking for the TV series for it.

But I do hope that this is better then the remake they made a while ago, it had such a good start and ended...like that.

God, that movie was awful.  Thankfully, it was a great first date.

I saw it while I was on cruise on my third deployment. Yeah, so we usually will watch anything and actually be interested regardless if it's shit. I didn't notice how much of a floating log of a turd it was until I saw it a second time.
