I live about a mile from this restaurant.  She might actually have closed it for winter, since it is right on the beach and our beach is virtually empty in winter.  A lot of the businesses do close until the beach tourists start to return.

That's what I meant by wrong location, a seasonal restaurant.

RC is there a McDonalds or similar place in Brighton?  and if so did that close for the winter season?

Ah you are right it is in a seasonal location. For somereason I thought it was in London.

If Brighton has that many other vegan/veggie eateries then I am sure there are ones that are not overpriced and are better quality. It sounds like she opened a vegan Planet Hollywood, marginal food that costs too much.

Yes there are two MacDonald's places in the centre, and one at the marina, none of which close for winter, they just get less busy.  There is also a KFC, which also does not close.  This is not even counting the small businesses that run a similar way.

In all fairness to the vegans though, there are local vegetarian fast food places that do stay open all year, but they are in the main shopping area, and they are more within an ordinary persons price range.  Come to think of it, since we have two large universities (that is "colleges"), I should think a lot of the vegans are students, and they are not about to eat at V-Bites prices.

Thanks RC.

On another note, why don't you head off to New Members board and tell us about yourself?  You just kinda jumped in the deepend, how about introducing yourself?

You might have heard it referred to as "London's beach", because it is where a lot of Londoners come for a trip to the seaside, but it isn't actually in London.

If you spot Gatwick Airport on a map, we are almost straight south of it, on the Channel coast.

Sorry about that, I couldn't think of what to say about myself earlier, that is why I just joined in.  I'll go post something now.

If there's a vegan restaurant that's going to come even remotely close to competing with McDonald's it's Loving Hut. They're spreading like wildfire all over the globe and are VERY cheap. Native Foods is also opening new locations all the time and our local vegan diner (Green) is opening it's second location in a couple months.

If her restaurant actually started to become a thread, McDonalds would certainly establish a vegan dish themselves and use mass advertising to get it to appeal to vegans. They are well above 'vBits'. They also boasts thousands of profession cheifs.  Many vegans in my reality eat at McDonalds, usually picking fries or salads.

I'm guessing McDonalds itself isn't too concerned. I'd actually try a vegan meal at a McDonalds if they had provided one. We have very little restaurants that cater to vegans here, but almost every restaurant (aside from McDonalds) seems to provide a vegetarian option.

I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree. It is widely known in the vegan community that the fries contain beef fat (not vegan). And none of their dressings (to the best of my knowledge) are vegan.

I know that I and several other vegans don't eat at McDonald's not only because they don't have anything that we would want to eat, but because of how we feel about the corporation.

Mc Donald's has not used beef tallow for the fries since at least the year 1995 after criticism from Hindus and vegetarians. Furthermore, she was addressing the vegans that she is aware of, so while you're welcome to have an opinion, try not to supersede it over people you are not personally aware of

So if a pound of beef takes 3,500 gallons of water, what difference does it make? How many vegetarians drive a car? To make a car (including tires), it takes about 40,000 gallons of fresh water. That's not including the gas it takes to run the car, the electricity to run the gas station, the water used to create the boat that brought your precious oil, the water used to create the pavement you drive on, the destruction of toxic chemicals that went into creating your clothes, and the electricity you use every day to send me stupid emails over the internet. Every year you are directly responsible for the consumption of billions of gallons of water. There are 26 million people suffering preventable brain damage from iodine deficiency, and another 1.5 billion people at risk. Nevermind that, you have animals to save. By driving your cars, you pump billions of tons of poison into the atmosphere and you're slowly killing us all. The computer you use requires 250 watts of electricity, let alone the billions of computers required to keep you on the internet. All consuming energy. All contributing to pollution. Let's just ignore those minor hypocrisies. Someone wants to enjoy a burger and you'll be damned if you're going to let them.

“In 10 years there will be more VBites restaurants than McDonald’s,” Ms. Mills said. “It’s the future.”
Among the items found on the eatery’s meatless menu are $8 “Beef  Soya Burgers,” $12 pizzas made with soy “cheese,” and $11 Greek salads.   Not exactly McDonald’s Extra Value Meal prices. And with only one   partially open restaurant in her portfolio, Ms. Mills has a long way to   go before she can even begin to compete with Ronald.

Paying more for less; a cornerstone of the veg/organic movement.
APOLOGISM IS THE WHORE OF THE FANATIC

Vis-a-vis the logic that dictates it is morally wrong to kill a singular animal for the consumption and use of its organic materials, vegism involves the deliberate and incidental gassing, poisoning, trapping, shooting and otherwise maiming of innumerable rodents, insects, birds and game animals for the sake of an imperialistic seizure of natural resources they may otherwise be entitled to.
Ergo, if "Meat is Murder", then Vegism is Genocide.

And that is what doomed the Rainforest Cafe at the mall that was near me. High price for little food.

French Fries:
Potatoes, vegetable oil (canola oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor [wheat and milk derivatives]*, citric acid [preservative]), dextrose, sodium acid
pyrophosphate (maintain color), salt. Prepared in vegetable oil (Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to
preserve freshness). Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent.
CONTAINS: WHEAT AND MILK *(Natural beef flavor contains hydrolyzed wheat and hydrolyzed milk as starting ingredients).
