SATA drives do not have jumpers.  Sorry, I was out most of the day yesterday.

I'll help anyone who asks.  To do otherwise would be unprofessional.

Like I said, moot point, at least until I find out how bad the damage is/what Rosewill's warranty will cover.

For future reference, or for the benefit of anyone else who attempts to change/add a SATA drive, they are very unforgiving.  You need to power the machine down and unplug it for a minute before connecting/disconnecting the power lead to it.  I learned this after I fried one.  It is possible that this could have fried your PS too.

I don't think so, as the hardware issues I was having predated my fiddling with the hard drives in any capacity.

Hard drives still run, so I'm guessing the power supply didn't fry everything- I'll be swapping out the power supplies and testing the components, then potentially buying a new MoBo if necessary to run 7.

I may have read wrong, but I didn't think your current machines was very old.

If you can give me the current specs I can find out it it's ok for windows 7.  But unless it's ancient (in computer years that's probably 3 years. :) )  it should be ok.

The MoBo is an MSI K9N SLI Platinum, and to the best of my understanding, MSI had some issues certifying their MoBos for Vista/7 when in fact they can't run them.

I have not found any specific problems with that MB running windows 7, but I haven't had a lot of time to research it.

Does the other drive still have a live OS on it?  If so, run the adviser at:

http://windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor

and let me know the results.
