BERLIN (AFP)---Germany's highest court on Thursday announced a ban on an advertising campaign by animal rights group PETA, which compares animals in a slaughter house to Jews in Nazi concentration camps.   

The posters, sponsored by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), bear photographs of concentration camp inmates, both alive and dead, along with pictures of plates piled with meat and animals ready for slaughter, accompanied by the slogan: "The Holocaust on you plate".   
The constitutional court said the campaign would have made "the fate of the
victims of the Holocaust appear banal and trivial."   
PETA said the campaign -- which was previously launched in the United States -- was intended to persuade people that the suffering of humans and animals was comparable and that animal products should therefore not be used or consumed.   
The court initially took up the case in response to a complaint from the president and vice-presidents of the Central Council of Jews in Germany -- all of them sons and daughters of people who died in the Holocaust.

Ugh, can't expect any less from the petards. Funny though how they deplore "trivializing" animal deaths in livestock and medical testing, yet when others who have experienced torture themselves say that PeTA is offensive, the petards tell them to suck it up.

I'm sure peta had some idea that this would happen, and are already working to spin it into a "OMFG Germany is persecuting us and doesn't care about the animalz.  BOYCOTT GERMANY NOW!!!" campaign.

Good for Germany though.

If Peta plans to call for a boycott of Germany, then I will forgo any plans for visiting the homeland of most of my ancestors (England, Scotland, Ireland and Sweden) and quadruple my vacations to Germany.
