I still don't see where Chris Columbus has anything to do with Thanksgiving or Halloween. Yes, Old Chris wasn't near as nice as we were led to believe in school. He brutalized the native people of the Americas as did countless other Spaniards who followed him.  But while the teacher might have a valid beef with Columbus Day, any connection with Halloween and Thanksgiving are lost to me.

My first thought - if this woman can't even get a decent reasoning together, then she shouldn't be commenting on it.

My 2nd thought - if these "holidays" are noted at all on the school calendar for this public school, then the principal needs to STFU, cause her policy would be inconsistent with the public school recognition of the holidays.

Glad I'm not in her district.

I am even more glad my kids never had her for a principal.

Besides....who even gives a shit about Columbus Day anymore besides government workers?  I sure as hell don't get the day off work for it. Hell, I didn't even get Thanksgiving off last year.

Halloween = witchcraft according to the topic.

Thanksgiving is somewhere along the same lines of reasoning as Columbus; anti-indian. We stole their land, blah-blah-blah.

Dear Principal,

I am appalled at your current state of mind, or the lack of one, of your judgment to get rid of fall holidays. If you are going to play that card, be sure you have the full deck:

Christmas is a pagan ritual that should also be banned. As is Hanukkah and Kwanza which a little history digging can show you their roots and pagan adaptations.

New Year's Day should have kids attending school. It's a new year based upon a foolish belief that a new year is sacred. Since you do not see anything even having a small amount of being sacred, this should no longer be a holiday.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day - I am appalled that kid's have a day off for a man who was a womanizer and cheater. Let's just ignore that little fact that he stood for equal rights. You had no problem attacking Columbus.

President's Day - This should be gone as well. The only ones that are celebrated are Washington and Lincoln. If you do some research in Lincoln's background and what he had planned before he was assassinated, there wouldn't be a lot of black people in the U.S. today.

Valentine's Day - a combination promotion of religion and obesity-filling candy. Isn't that what is being bitched about in schools these days (P.S. I want my fucking Gertrude Hawk back. Some of these schools dropped them because of the obesity outcry and tried other fundraisers. The results were poorer schools because few people were buying and kids still turning into fatasses).

Easter - pagan holiday raped with religion affiliation. Get rid of it.

St. Patrick's day is also unkind to atheists and those who are snake lovers.

You want major? Get rid of summer vacation. Summer vacation was used for the time off where kids could tend to family farms. Since the majority of kids do not do such labors, I am offended by these lazy kids.

In short, stop being a douche that falls into the political correctness fallacy that is raping the identity of this world. You can't make the world a perfect place. In fact, you are helping to take out any importance, deep meaning, and shock value of events, conditions, and the like. This will make the world a boring place where people won't give a flying fuck over anything that has some significant value or played a role in our lives. People like you want children to be shut into bubbles to be protected from the real world and the truth, too afraid that these kids may make decisions on their own that may disrupt your educational (and I use that term loosely) agenda. You are so worried about intolerance, that you are allowing these kids to suffocate in their bubble and to be turned into mindless drones...which you have no problem tolerating until someone bitches and moans about some sort of intolerance that political correctness has missed.

Signed,

Love... this :)

I think I have the perfect book for you if you want to know history, Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong, by James Loewen. Not gonna say that it's perfect, but it's a good read if you want the hard history. Nothing colored by rose colored glasses.

...and the authors local, but that has 'nothing' to do with my pushing of this book and author...just that fact that I got to meet him and he kicked ass. Kinda looks like the old guy in Mr. Deeds, you know the dude with the sweet beard? Ya, just like him...thought he does have a full head of hair.

I have heard of the book and like the concept. But that still doesn't give a good enough reason for getting rid of certain holidaysl

Exactly what in the fuck does Chris Columbus have to do with Halloween and Thanksgiving anyway?
I guess Thanksgiving could be construed as a religious holiday. As the original story goes, they had the feast to give thanks to god or whatever the hell. All I know its that in November, I get a Thursday and friday off to eat turkey and watch football and I'm thankful for that. To whom, I have no idea. i guess it would either be Abe Lincoln who resumed it as a national holiday, or Franklin Roosevelt who actually proclaimed it a federal holiday in 1939, or the congress that approved that in 1941. I don't know...or really fucking care. Just give me my big ass turkey leg and hope the Cowboys get beat this year.

Because Columbus was involve in slavery and he mistreated the indians.

To this I say a royal 'fuck you.' Not that it is a lie or truth, just that people want to look for the perfect 'hero' and they realize that there is no such fucking thing. Everyone has skeletons in their closet. If you have a problem with Columbus holiday, get the fuck out of America. That is the reason why he has a holiday in the first place. Don't give me this shit about the indians being here first. They didn't discover the continent if they claim that they were already there. Or you can fuck with them and say if all people were originally from Africa, that makes indians also immigrants of the US.

History is written by the victors of war, etc. Don't like it? Too bad; that's life.

As for Thanksgiving, there is also tales of cannibalism that happened to one colony around that time. Why should be ban something because some fucking old ass colony had to resort to cannibalism to get through the winter. Have these complaining motherfuckers forgot the reason behind Thanksgiving is to give 'thanks.' Be thankful that you're not starving. Be thankful you didn't resort to cannibalism. Be thankful that you still have a job, a family, etc. Be thankful that I didn't find your whining ass yet.

Someone who takes Wendy Malick or Wayne Pacelle up on their infomercial request for "just $19 dollars a month" will pay HSUS $228 over the course of a year. Of that, just $1.03 will reach a pet shelter.
